Founded in 2005, Barrett Design and
Development LLC combines architecture
and real estate development under one roof to form a company that is uniquely versatile and responsive. The firm has a strategic partnership with Lindsay Barrett of Urban Compass, who handles all sales and marketing of completed properties.
The firm began with the belief that good design and successful real estate development are not mutually exclusive, but actually complementary. The firm has brought this idea to bear primarily in the neighborhoods of “brownstone Brooklyn,” with their low-density, historic row house architecture, and tree-lined streets. New development in these areas is limited by zoning, landmark restrictions and a lack of developable parcels – and quality design is scarce.
Barrett Design applies contextual design sensibility to underutilized properties, in an effort to create unique homes in buildings that contribute to their surroundings. The firm seeks projects that are distinctive and architecturally challenging – either possessing existing historic character to be restored, or opportunities for creative, modern design interventions.
